Amidst the rising tensions between India and Pakistan, a few sane voices have been asking for peace and not war. Shehzadi Hussain from Pakistan posted a video on Facebook last night, appealing to the people and the government to stop war mongering.

“This is an appeal to our Indian sisters sitting across the border, please join us in asking for peace and not war. Let’s say no to war. We don’t want a war, we want peace, we don’t want a bomb, we want a pen.”

The tension between India and Pakistan escalated after both countries engaged in dogfight on 27 February, a day after Indian fighter jets carried out air strikes across the Line of Control, destroying the biggest terrorist-training camp of the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Balakot. The air strikes came in the wake of the JeM-orchestrated Pulwama terror attack which claimed the lives of 40 Indian CRPF personnel on 14 February.

Responding to the mounting tension, US President Donald Trump on Thursday, 28 February, said the India-Pakistan situation will “hopefully” come to an end soon. Trump added that the US was mediating between the two nations to achieve “peace”.

In his first statement after the strikes, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Thursday, addressed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers via a video conference and said “India will live as one, work as one, grow as one and fight as one.”

He further said “India is grateful to all those who are protecting the nation.”
