Try typing weight loss on google. You get over 20 million search results. 20 MILLION.
Everyone is searching for, or reading about weight loss tips. Caste, religion, region, nationality no bar. Everyone is concerned about their weight. And they should be. Being over weight or obese comes with it’s own list of health problems. Several studies have shown if your Body Mass Index is not on track you are at risk of cardio vascular disease, diabetes and even stroke.
India has a unique paradox, in a country with perhaps the worst malnutrition rates, we are topping the obesity charts. First world problem has become a complex developing world health crisis.
If Only It Was Easy
So we at FIT are launching a campaign on World Health Day.
Our month long series, we are calling it simply ‘Weight Loss,’ focuses on the science behind this global obsession. How do you lose weight? Is there a perfect diet? Can you lose weight? What’s genes got to do with it? What’s food got to do with it? We bring you the why, when what of weight loss.
Now you may ask, why? Is this not amounting to fat shaming and adding to the already very complicated relationship people have with body image? No.
Our series is focused on the science of weight loss. It focuses on our diets and why we need to be healthy, it focuses on real nutrition solutions that an Indian reader can relate to and has access to (no one’s asking you to eat salmon and avocado). There is just so much information out there - refer to the 20 million figure on top - and there is so much misinformation.
Do we promise to make you thin? No. Do we promise to help you live healthy? Yes.
