Believe it or not, a woman lost ten years worth of memory due to constipation. In a bizarre development of events, a woman in Hong Kong suffered temporary amnesia which wiped out her memory of an entire decade. The reason behind it? She pushed a little too hard in a quiet toilet corner, reported a Chinese newspaper. Following this, she suffered a mental blackout.

Her amnesia lasted for about 8 hours and she was alright after a night in the hospital, according to media reports. When she woke up, she had no memory of the previous day. The same report quotes a doctor who calls this condition transient global amnesia. The condition entails disrupted blood flow and oxygen to the brain through the jugular vein valve.

The report adds that a person is left more prone to it if they’re very emotional or if they have been lifting heavy objects.

If you too are worried about your bowel movements, just remember to stock up on fibre. A fibre-rich diet helps relieve constipation as it makes your poop soft and stimulates proper bowel movement.

Some sources of fibre include eggplant, okra, carrots, sweet potato, turnips, grapes, berries (strawberries, blueberries), oranges, banana, guava. All nuts except cashews and pistachios are a good bet so are seeds like flaxseeds, chia and sunflower seeds. But again in small quantities, and not if one is sensitive to them. Remember, it is important to increase fibre intake slowly.

Additionally, it’s important to remember that, according to experts, you don’t have to poop every day. You should be concerned if you experience pain, or have trouble going to the washroom.
