Gone are the days when movies used to employ people stammering as comic relief. Ranbir Kapoor’s character in Jagga Jasoos is an affable school-going boy who sings his way through life. The reason behind making it musical was to beat Jagga’s stammering, which made him afraid to speak up.

In the Oscar-winning movie King’s Speech, they show the journey of King George VI, who overcomes his dreadful stammer to go on and give memorable speeches.

So, don’t let stammering get in your way. Bhadrakshi Tanna, a speech consultant who himself struggled with stammering in childhood, shares his experience and gives some quick tips to help you overcome it.

He says stammering is only as severe as you think it to be. The more you think about it, the more you’ll stammer. So, apart from trying different techniques to help you speak fluently, you should also work on your belief and confidence.

You have to stay positive. Whenever you go to bed at night, close your eyes and creatively visualise situations in which you’re speaking with clarity; it syncs it to your mind and helps in speaking well.
