In the latest development in Eman Ahmed's much-publicised weight-loss treatment, the Abu Dhabi hospital she was admitted to last week has said she suffers from several complications, including a serious heart issue, reports Hindustan Times.

Believed to have been the world's heaviest woman, Eman underwent bariatric surgery at Saifee hospital in Mumbai. After a public spat between her family and her doctors at Saifee, she left the country for Abu Dhabi on 4 May, having spent three months at the hospital.

Ahmed reached Burjeel Hospital on Friday and was kept under observation at the intensive care unit (ICU). Eman’s sister Shaima Salim said she looked happy about going there, and now they want to cure the other ailments she is suffering from, and it’s no longer about weight loss.

Doctors at Saifee said the surgery and diet regime they gave Ahmed helped her lose more than 300 kg. On the other hand, Shaima called surgeon Dr Muffazal Lakdawala and the hospital “liars”, saying that her condition was critical and the hospital only cared about putting on a show for the media.

Dr Yassin El Shahat, chief medical officer, and a multi-disciplinary team of 20 doctors, including orthopaedic surgeons, cardiologists, plastic surgeon and physiotherapists, are currently taking care of Eman.

She is currently facing several health conditions since her admission to the hospital, including cardiac issues (severe aortic regurgitation with query endocarditis), which is still under intensive investigation, severe urosepsis (a life-threatening infection of the urinary tract), and third degree infected bed sores. These conditions are beside her original medical problems of obesity and other comorbidities.

The Quint contacted Dr Lakdawala and his team for their response to the Burjeel hospital's statement, but hasn't got a response yet.

In Mumbai, Shaima had claimed Eman was suffering seizures after her surgery on 7 March.

Saifee doctors, however, had refuted her claims and said Ahmed had not suffered a single epileptic seizure after the surgery, according to a CT scan they performed on her a week before her transfer to Burjeel Hospital.

The state government intervened in the spat that gained attention on social media to stop the matter from escalating. Maharashtra Health Minister Deepak Sawant called for the formulation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the embassies of the two countries in case of foreign nationals visiting India for treatment.
