The booze, the sloth, the yummy nibbles - you’ve probably been spending the last 10 days stuffing yourself silly and bingeing on alcohol, cakes, pies and pizzas.
Here’s an unpleasant reality check- one traditional Christmas dinner packs more than 3200 calories and that’s minus the alcohol. You’re probably saying in your head that it’s alright because winters call for some extra cushioning but here’s the deal - studies say that people largely pack in more than 5 pounds during the months of November and December with excessive partying!
If that scares you then go through our cleverly crafted guide, so you can party all you want and still slip into your skinny jeans again:
1. Never Arrive Hungry!
No one cares if you go on the paleo diet from tomorrow or you give up chocolate, cheese, sugar yada yada yada. Once the pie gets attached on your ass, the fat cells are going to sit there forever. Even if you lose weight, the fat cells shrink and don’t get killed, precisely why the moment you let the guard down, you will pile on weight.
So load up on proteins, whole wheat high-fibre crackers before you step out to avoid eating your servings of pies and more.
2. Feast Mindfully, Drink Sensibly
Change the way to eat along with what you eat to avoid becoming a part of one of the holiday weight gain statistic. Be mindful of what you put in your mouth and take time between snacks. Remember, it takes 20 minutes for your brain to realise it’s full. Booze has calories too, remember to choose your drinks wisely to avoid a sugar rush!
3. Party Like a Rockstar!
Doll up, brave the cold, and swing to Shakin’ Stevens for two hours. Two hours of crazy dancing on New Year’s Eve will burn a solid 600 calories. Don’t forget to bring a change of shoes in your handbag and sway the night away.
4. Shopping Is Cardio
If stress burned calories, I’d be a supermodel. Kiss goodbye to the over-riding sense of guilt when you blow the monies shopping, because a new study by Wall’s Solero Exotic, blows the case completely out the water. Women can burn 15,000 calories a year on the hunt for the perfect Manolos or Louis Vuitton.
The same study said that British women walk during shopping on an average of 180 miles a year - that’s seven giant marathons! So memorise these stats, don’t shop for New Year’s gifts online, remember Carrie Bradshaw taught us, ‘shopping is cardio’.
5. Wash Up After the Party
Doing the dishes is no fun but getting in shape is tougher. So give your maid a chutti, scrub the dishes and the house for half an hour and wham! it’s equal to a moderate walk on the treadmill for the same time and productive too.
The CDC Atlanta estimates that cleaning the windows of the Empire State Building can burn more than 4,200 calories a day!
That would be nearly a pound and a half of calories burned off! Woah!
Finally, whatever you do, don’t wait for the 1st of January to lose a pile of pounds, jump on your weight loss resolution TODAY, so 2018 won’t be that hard. And for the love of pies, take fitness seriously or don’t bore your friends with weight loss talks at dinner. Spare them the exhaustion while they dig into some cheesy mashed potato.
