Trouble seems to be never ending for Anurag Basu’s Jagga Jasoos. The detective film which was scheduled to hit the screen this year, is going through so much trouble that in all probability, it will only release in 2016.

Ranbir’s Box Office Slump

The first sign of trouble was when a series of films exploring the detective genre failed at the ticket window. According to a reliable source, “Detective as a genre has hardly worked in Bollywood. But Anurag was confident that his film will be different from the rest, as he had quite a quirky take on the genre. The story worked more on a personal level than as a case study. Besides, Ranbir being a star could pull in a large crowd to watch it. Once the crowd comes, they will know what the film is.”

But the actor’s back to back failures at the box office have placed a question mark on his box office might. “Ranbir’s last three films have done nothing cheerful at the box office. Now even a great initial is not a sure shot possibility. So, Anurag has decided to change the treatment of the film altogether, and take a new course so that the film looks fresh and innovative to the audience,” the source adds.

Govinda’s Exit

Interestingly, most unit members believe that such a major change in the film’s theme and treatment has led to Govinda’s exit from the film. “Govinda was always in doubt about his role. This rescheduling only made his doubt and resolve stronger to get himself out of the film. Considering Anurag has taken a new direction for the story, a lot of things are going haywire now,” the source says.

Over Budget Already!

Ranbir Kapoor who has turned producer with director Anurag Basu for Jagga Jasoos is biting his nails in suspense. “Anurag has done much reshooting as he wasn’t happy with certain portions of the film. Because of reshooting, he failed to meet many production deadlines earlier. And with this new direction that the film has taken, it will be another few months before the crew pack up finally. And to make matters worse, the budget of the film has increased considerably,” the source says.

So, dear readers, you will get to meet Jagga Jasoos only in 2016. That is if all goes well from here on!
