Bollywood rules. Period. Not only is it a lifeline for desi fans, it also has a tremendous impact on foreigners around the world too.
Senorita bade bade desho mein... You know what I mean
– Barack Obama
When the US president quoted this Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995) punchline during his last visit to India, our jaws dropped! But what’s even more jaw dropping is the craze of Indian cinema abroad as witnessed on YouTube. Check out these epic videos of fans going gaga over our desi tunes.
1. Jaadu Teri Nazar African Style!
These African (reportedly Tanzanian) guys singing Jaadu Teri Nazar from Shah Rukh Khan starrer Darr (1993) are really cool. Check out their Hindi pronunciation. It’s bang on! The guy in the driver’s seat even hums the instrumental part of the song. Hilarious!
2. Om Shanti Om Finnish Style!
They might not get the lyrics but they certainly love grooving to Bollywood chartbusters. Check out what the Finnair flight crew did on India’s Republic Day in 2012. The passengers were totally surprised to be greeted by the flight crew in full Bollywood style as they danced away in the aisle to this SRK number from Om Shanti Om (2007).
3. Lingaa Japanese Style!
Nothing is impossible for Rajinikanth. But his Japanese fans are even more unbelievable! Their Tamil is as good as their Japanese. Not only are they wearing Rajini t-shirts but are also delivering dialogues Rajini style and singing his songs! Check out this video of their Chennai visit. They flew down all the way just for the star’s Lingaa (2014) release.
4. Kolaveri Di Dutch Style!
Though the supremely viral Kolaveri Di sung by Tamil star Dhanush has many versions, you just have to check out these Dutch guys dancing away to the song in the middle of the street. The lip sync is superb! This video is guaranteed to leave you in splits.
The edit and their costumes are epic!
5. Item Number Hong Kong Style!
Can you believe how well these girls from Hong Kong can do the thumka! And their expressions are so apt for the hugely popular Fevicol Se number from Dabangg 2 (2012). Whoever thought raunchy item songs appeal to indians alone. Kareena Kapoor better watch out!
6. Indonesian Police Do the Chaiyya Chaiyya!
What do the Indonesian police do when they get bored on duty? Get some thrills via Bollywood of course. Watch this quirky cop do a Shah Rukh Khan on Chaiyya Chaiyya without the train and Malaika Arora.
