The 71st Primetime Emmy Awards were held at Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles on 22 September and shows like Game of Thrones, Fleabag, Ozark won big at the award ceremony. HBO’s Game of Thrones held a record-breaking 32 nominations and took home the awards for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Peter Dinklage).
Apart from winning the awards, the much loved show made some beautiful memories on the occasion and created iconic moments. Here are 5 times the cast of Game of Thrones made us emotional at the Emmy Awards.
1. The Selfie of the Seven Kingdoms
There couldn’t have been a better way to conclude the show’s time at Emmy Awards. From Cersei Lannister to Sansa Stark, the selfie features on-screen families and enemies in one frame, and we can’t help but cry at this beautiful picture. This picture was taken backstage, before the team went on to announce the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series.
2. And Their Watch Ends
The HBO show came to an end with its eighth season being the final one, and this was their last Emmys as the Game of Thrones cast. To honour the iconic show, they were asked to present the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, together. As the cast came on stage, they were welcomed with loud cheer and applause. Sadly, watching all of them walk together for the last time broke our hearts.
3. When Sansa Stark Met Jon Snow
There could have been nothing more emotional that watching Sophie Turner and Kit Harrington reunite at the Emmys. The actors who played siblings in Game of Thrones, met after a long time and shared a warm hug. The sweet moment reminded us all of the scene in season 6 of the show, when Sansa Stark and Jon Snow reunite after years and share an embrace much similar to this. Some fans made a collage of both the incidents and it looks nothing but nostalgic. Take a look.
4. Peter Dinklage’s Fourth Emmy as Tyrion Lannister
Peter Dinklage created a record by taking home his fourth Emmy for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, for his role as Tyrion Lannister in Game of Thrones. His acceptance speech got Emilia Clarke, Kit Harrington and others teary-eyed, as he dedicated the award to the creators of the show. “We did nothing but sweat. We did nothing but laugh. Dave and Dan, we literally walked through Fire and Ice for you, literally. And I would do it all again in a heartbeat,” Peter said.
5. And the Top Emmy of the Night Goes to - Game of Thrones!
The award everyone was waiting for - Outstanding Drama Series, was won by Game of Thrones, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. The entire team of the show was on stage to receive the award and we still can’t believe that there’ll be no more Game of Thrones episodes.
