The real life story of Shweta Mehta is even more impressive than her MTV Roadies Rising win. The fourth season winner started her career as an IT Professional in Bangalore. After an accident some years ago, she gained weight and suffered from severe back pain, which ultimately lead her to an ambitious fitness goal.
While talking to The Quint, Shweta reveals why she dropped her successful career as an IT Professional and chose the world of fitness.
I didn’t want to be a part of the crowd. For almost a year, I was working as an IT Professional and preparing for the Jerai Women’s Physique competition. When I stood third in the competition I decided to give up my career as an IT Professional and give my 100% dedication to the world of fitness.Shweta Mehta, MTV Roadies Rising winner
I never liked the gym. I struggled for almost a year. The thought of going to the gym made me hate it even more. I didn’t like weights, but then I saw myself in a swimming costume and the fact that I was ashamed of wearing it made me feel the need to drive towards fitness. I used to go for swimming in the dark so that I do not have to face people and decided to lose some weight, so that I could go to the gym in a better shape. The main cause was also my back ache.Shweta Mehta
Shweta, now a bikini fitness athlete, was at the centre of a ton of family drama, when her family found out about her modelling. Her mother refused to speak to her and instructed her to delete her Facebook account, which at that point had five thousand followers. The daredevil mustered up the courage to approach her father and to her surprise, he was appreciative of her achievement.
I expected my mother to react this way. The fact that my colleagues, who were working with me in a developed city like Bangalore didn’t have good things to say about me, was what disturbed me. But I kept persistent in what I wanted to do.Shweta Mehta
But Shweta’s family had a struggle of its own. As she was away pushing her own boundaries to fulfil her dreams, back at home, her parents fought judgement and ridicule.
More than me, my family was suffering. They were being questioned by the people at each and every step. My brother has a shop in the main market, he was being questioned. Their struggle was more difficult, as I was away from all of that, and only got to know about it when I called home. And sometimes they wouldn’t even tell me.Shweta Mehta
Shweta has also represented India at the Asian Championship as a bikini fitness athlete.
Now, as the latest winner of MTV Roadies Rising, Shweta wants to be a part of other reality shows like Big Boss and Khatron Ke Khiladi. She also wants to open a line of sports wear, which she hopes will be a representation of who she really is.
