The long list of nominations for the 71st Primetime Emmy Awards were announced on Tuesday and HBO’s Game of Thrones has won the race by securing the most number of nominations - 32 to be exact. It beat a 25-year standing record set by NYPD Blue (26 nominations in 1984). Through the course of its 8 seasons, Game of Thrones has received a total of 161 nominations.
Other HBO shows that have received nominations include Chernobyl, Sharp Objects and more. HBO is also leading the nominations in total by platforms (it has received 137 nominations), followed by Netflix (117) and NBC (58). In 2018, Netflix had beat HBO by receiving more nominations. However, this year, HBO has secured its number one position once again.
Some of the Netflix shows that received nominations include Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (Television Movies category), Russian Doll, When They See Us, Ozark, Bodyguard etc.
Amazon’s comedy series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has bagged 20 nominations. Next in line after Game of Thrones’ record-breaking feat.
