After Twitter users slammed Sony TV’s Kaun Banega Crorepati for missing the title ‘Chhatrapti Maharaj’ while mentioning Shivaji in the latest episode, Sony TV has apologised for the same.
The channel took to social media to release an apology and wrote, “There was an inaccurate reference to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj during Wednesday’s KBC episode, due to inadvertence. We deeply regret the same and being mindful of the sentiments of our viewers have carried a scroll expressing regret during our episode yesterday. #KBC11”
The hashtag #BoycottKBCSonyTV was trending on Twitter after the episode aired, as netizens asked why was the title ‘Chhatrapati Maharaj’ not prefixed to Shivaji. The question asked to the participant was, “Which of these rulers was the contemporary of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb?” and the four options for it were Maharana Pratap, Rana Sanga, Maharaj Ranjit Singh and Shivaji.
Users took to Twitter to express their anger for ‘insulting Shivaji’ on the show.
Netizens were also quick to point out that while Shivaji was being called just by his name, Aurangzeb had ‘Mughal emperor’ prefixed to it.
Earlier in September, certain viewers took to social media to call out certain sexist remarks passed by the host, Amitabh Bachchan. Apparently, Bachchan cracked a joke implying that women are gold-diggers.
Narrating the entire incident, a user wrote, Bachchan cracked a “sexist and misogynistic joke.”
He wrote, “For those who haven't seen today's episode, there was this contestant who has never had a girl in his life. He goes onto win Rs 1 crore through his brilliant all-around knowledge. Reacting to this, Big B said, "Now girls will get attracted to you saying, 'Karodpati ji, main aapki KarodPATNI banna chahti hoon.' (Mr Crorepati, I’d like to be your crore-patni)“
