Late TV-Host Anthony Bourdain Wins Six Emmys Posthumously

Three months after his death in June, Anthony Bourdain was the recipient of six Emmy awards at this year’s Creative Arts Emmys for his show Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown on Sunday.

The show won trophies for best informational series or special, writing for non-fiction program, picture editing for a non-fiction program, sound editing for a non-fiction program and sound mixing for a non-fiction program. Bourdain himself recieved two Emmys, for writing and informational series or special.

He also won an Emmy for best short-form non-fiction or reality for the digital spinoff Anthony Bourdain: Explore Parts Unknown. This year’s Emmys are in addition to the four Bourdain had won previously, including best informational series or special in 2016.

The late TV host’s colleagues honoured him in their acceptance speeches. “The one thing about this loss is it’s not ours alone, like everybody knew that guy,” executive producer Thornburgh told Variety. “Everybody had a selfie with him, but more importantly I think everyone felt like he had spoken to them over the years and that’s helped a lot, to feel like we’re not alone.”

Producer Lydia Tenaglia said, “Tony was nominated for this Emmy many times, but it had always eluded him. So it is with tremendous bittersweetness that I accept it on his behalf.”

The celebrity chef and TV star died by suicide on June 8 in France.
