Actor Sushant Singh Rajput dropped the ‘Rajput’ from his surname as a symbolic protest against the recent attack on filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali by the Karni Sena, alleging distortion of facts in his historical film on Padmavati.
“Yes, I did it for a day to show that the unfortunate action is not what everyone with that surname endorses. They do not represent the entire Rajputs. There are ways to express your ideas, but violence is never an answer, and that too just on mere speculation.”Sushant Singh Rajput, Actor
The actor also tweeted clarifications to followers who questioned his move to drop his surname as a means of protest.
Sushant, who played the lead in the MS Dhoni biopic last year, had tweeted this in protest on hearing of the attack on Bhansali:
But the actor also clarified that he is not changing his name and that it was just his way of registering a protest. “I am not changing my name, that was a way to express that I don’t endorse the view of a particular group which claims to be the representative of entire Rajputs and probably India,” said the actor.
Well, the ‘Rajput’ surname is back now and hopefully a message has been sent.
