When Aishwarya Rai Bachchan decided to experiment with her fashion choices this year, it became the talk of the town. But the L’Oreal Ambassador maintains that her look was the cosmetic brand’s prerogative and she did not interfere with their decision. When Sonam Kapoor, who rocked the red carpet at Cannes this year, was asked about Ash’s fashion statement, the actress quipped that the Sarbjit actress chose the colour to be “talked about” and the actress should be happy with the attention she got.

The whole idea of fashion and make-up is for people to discuss it and I guess she wanted to be discussed. She achieved what she wanted to achieve with it, which I think is great. I don’t think she walked for L’Oreal that day. There was an Amul ad on it, people were discussing it. I think it was great to do it on a 15th year, it’s cool. She was trending everywhere.

Sonam personally thought Aishwarya pulled off the look. The Khoobsurat actress also said that she has worn purple lipstick in the past and even black lipstick but people haven’t talked about her look!

I have always tried mixing Indian elements with my outfits at Cannes because it is an international platform. This year was no different. I wanted to represent my country abroad.

Sonam also spoke of her career choices in Bollywood.

I think when you go down the unbeaten path, you don’t think what others think of you. You think what you want and how you want to see yourself. I am unaffected by the criticism as well as the praise. As far as my work is concerned, it is about me evolving and bettering myself. Nobody can be a harsher critic than I am to myself.
