Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore was stopped by the Pakistan immigration authorities on the Wagah Border for not having a police report of her presence in Pakistan, on Sunday. She crossed the border into India on Monday, 22 February.
When she reached Wagah Border on Sunday night, she was told that her ‘police report’ was missing from her travel documents.
The 71-year-old actress was also stopped by the Federal Investigation Agency (Immigration) at Wagah Border. A protocol officer accompanying the actress contacted the concerned police station and arranged for the required report, which was faxed across to the border agency after two hours.
By the time the issue was resolved, she had already decided to postpone her departure to Monday. Tagore was in Pakistan on a four-day visit to participate in the Lahore Literary Festival (LLF), and was escorted by police personnel on her way to the Wagah Border.
During her stay in Lahore, Tagore called on Prime Minister Sharif and also had dinner with him and his family. She was received very warmly by his family, especially his daughter Maryum Nawaz.
