The Quint had reported on Thursday that the box-office prospects of Rock On 2 don’t look very promising after the Prime Minister’s demonetisation announcement because of the cash crunch the entire country is facing. The day one collections of the Farhan Akhtar - Shraddha Kapoor film show that the worst did happen.
According to reports, the Friday collections of the film are estimated to be just over Rs 2 crore, which is far below what was expected.
In my chat with Super Cinema’s editor, Amul Mohan, he had revealed that the film was expected to rake in somewhere between Rs 5 crore to Rs 6 crore on day one. Trade analyst Komal Nahta had predicted that the film would take 15-20% hit on its revenues because of the demonetisation drive. But the Friday collection of just Rs 2.02 crore really spells disaster for this Eros International and Excel Entertainment film.
With the cash flow situation still remaining unresolved and turbulent, it doesn’t look like the situation at the box-office is likely to look up for Rock On 2 over the weekend either.
