4. Danny Boyle’s Warning Against the ‘Terrifying Power’ of Tech Giants
Director of the Steve Jobs biopic Danny Boyle, had just finished reading the Dave Eggers novel titled The Circle, set in the near-future in which one vast Twitter-Facebook-Apple encompassing Internet company controls almost all perceivable platforms of digital communication. That’s when Scott Rudin handed him the script for Steve Jobs. According to Hollywood Reporter the filmmaker spoke about this at a promotional event for the film in London-
[The Circle] was terrifying. It was one of the factors I had in doing this. I thought, this is so fucking incredible, because it’s so benign. What are the drawbacks? But if you understand history, you know there will be drawbacks.
– Danny Boyle, Filmmaker
Referring to three of the world’s biggest tech giants, Boyle also said-
These companies are so powerful now that governments are running scared. They have such influence around the world, they’ve replaced petrochemical companies, pharmaceutical companies, they’re bigger than all of them put together and they have tremendous, terrifying power and it’s important that artists and writers are not cowed by them and if that means they’re accused of being opportunistic then so be it.

5. Ashley Judd Reveals Her Experience of Being Sexually Harassed by a Studio Mogul
InVariety’s latest Power of Women issue, Hollywood actor Ashley Judd has shared a story about being sexually harassed by a studio mogul. Apparently he tried to get Judd to watch him while taking a shower. This is the first time that she has shared this story in public. According to Variety she said-
I was sexually harassed by one of our industry’s most famous, admired-slash-reviled bosses. I was making Kiss the Girls at the time, and here I was, a declared feminist. I had completed a minor in what was then called women’s studies, which we now call gender studies. And yet I did not recognize at the time what was happening to me. It took years before I could evaluate that incident and realise that there was something incredibly wrong and illegal about it. And I think that’s what’s happening in Hollywood with regard to female crew members, above-the-line and below-the-line talent, and pay disparity. We’re individually and collectively coming to a realisation and acceptance that this is an entrenched part of reality, and I think that talking about it is essential to the process of becoming aware, accepting that this is reality and then ultimately taking action.
