1. SC Rejects Rajasthan, MP Govts’ Plea to Ban ‘Padmaavat’
The Supreme Court on Tuesday, 23 January, refused to modify its earlier order on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, effectively rejecting the Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh governments’ plea to ban the film.
Appearing for the state of Rajasthan, Additional Solicitor General (ASG) Tushar Mehta argued, “I am not saying allow me to ban the film, I had moved the apex court for certain modification of the court's earlier interim order.”
The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, in response observed that “people must understand that there is a statutory body, and also we (the court) have passed an order.” It added that the governments must ensure law and order prevailed in their respective states.

As fringe groups continue to oppose the release of Padmaavat and go on a rampage in different parts of the country, terrorising cinema owners into submission and indecision about screening the film, here are some reactions from those who managed to view the film at a select screening, ahead of the the 25 January release.

3. Priyanka’s ‘Baywatch’ Gets 4 Noms For Being the Worst at Razzies
Ouch! Priyanka Chopra’s Hollywood debut Baywatch has been nominated in 4 categories at the Golden Raspberry Awards or Razzies which celebrates and awards the worst films and actors every year at an annual event to correspond with the prestigious Oscars.
While Priyanka Chopra herself isn’t a part of the noms, Baywatch made the cut for the Worst Picture, Worst Actor, Worst Screenplay and Worst Remake, Ripoff or Sequel categories. Well, Baywatch is in good company with names like Tom Cruise (nominated for Worst Actor) and Darren Aronofsky (nominated for Worst Director for Mother!) also on the list.

4. Prateik Babbar Makes It Official: Announces His Engagement
Prateik Babbar is finally engaged to his girlfriend, Sanya Sagar. Though, the couple began dating only a year back, they have known each other since eight years.
Prateik also shared a picture from the ceremony, “#monday.. “holy snappp!.. that just happened!”,” he posted on Instagram.
Son of Smita Patil and Raj Babbar, Prateik said that he can always feel his mother’s presence, “she is my guardian angel and guiding force,” he told Mirror.

5. Sidharth Malhotra Is ‘Irritated’ About ‘Aiyaary’ ‘PadMan’ Clash
Actor Sidharth Malhotra, who plays a pivotal role in Aiyaary, feels the clash between the movie and Akshay Kumar's PadMan could have been avoided. But he says he can only hope for the best now. Aiyaary, which has a patriotic vibe, was originally slated for release on January 25 to make the most of the long Republic Day weekend. It was clashing with PadMan.
But after Padmaavat got a final release date of January 25, the makers of Aiyaarymoved its release to February 9 to avoid clashing with it and PadMan. However, Akshay Kumar, as a move in support of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and to let Padmaavat get a solo release, shifted PadMan to February 9, bringing the situation back to square one -- clashing with Aiyaary.
