If all had gone well, the latest internet sensation, Priya Prakash Varrier, would have made her debut in a Malayalam film last year.

Speaking to The Quint, the director of Oru Adaar Love, Omar Lulu says, “I had actually finalised Priya Prakash Varrier for a small role in my second film Chunkzz. I had seen her pictures and called her for an audition. Priya’s audition was very good, so we finalised her for the role, but then dates became a problem because we were to shoot during her exams.”

Chunkzz, a comedy, which starred Honey Rose and Balu Varghese went on to become a hit in 2017.

Omar calls Oru Adaar Love a musical love story, which revolves around 9 students at a higher secondary school. The film is 20% wrapped as per the first shooting schedule and the song Manikya Malaraya Poovi was just released to create buzz around Valentine’s day.

Now, news is that following the huge interest in Priya Varrier since the video went viral, her role may be increased to make her a lead actor in the film instead of being a part of the ensemble. However, Omar refutes all such reports being circulated about his film. “We had decided to increase Roshan and Priya’s love story after the first schedule itself. We are not doing it after her video went viral. Priya is just one of the heroines in the film, she is not the lead actress in Oru Adaar Love. We have already locked the script, there will not be any changes done to it,” clarifies the director.

Reacting to reports of a complaint in Hyderabad against the song by a Muslim group, Omar says that there is nothing offensive in the song. “We have received a lot of support from many sections for the song, we are not removing it from YouTube or the film. Manikya Malarayi Poovi, is written by popular lyricist PMA Jabbar and composed by Thalassery K. Rafeeque, it’s not a song written by us. The hit number remains a most sought after song during marriages and other celebrations in Kerala since 1978," he says.

Oru Adaar Love is scheduled to release towards the end of June post Eid.
