“Very catchy” is how an ardent fan described Closer, a hit number by The Chainsmokers’. After hearing some of their music - and I’m using that word liberally - “very catchy” is exactly why these DJs are popular.

But first, let me take a #Selfie!

If you’re wondering where you’ve heard that before, refresh your memory:

Often described as the Nickleback of the EDM genre, The Chainsmokers are not just another footnote in the ongoing history of the genre. Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall, the DJ-duo who make up The Chainsmokers, studied music in college. No wonder they’ve used this knowledge well - they are among the most famous DJs on the planet at the moment.

Now you may say the comparison to Nickleback might be harsh, and if you’re a millennial, then you may not even know what Nickleback is. They were famous for making music out of the trend of the day. Same formula. The Chainsmokers took the trend of the day, the Selfie, made a song about it, and the rest, as they say, was history.

What drugs and hookers were to Nickleback, selfies are to The Chainsmokers.

Today, EDM can be compared to what the Rock genre was back in 2000 - not in terms of music, but in terms of the number of fans the genre has accumulated. In 2016, they reigned the Billboards for multiple weeks with three songs. Their number one single, Closer, is a song that has captured many hearts. So much so, that it has been covered by musicians like Vidya Vox, Cole Swindle, Conor Maynard and Alexa Goddard, Gallant, and even Modern Family actor, Sarah Hyland.

These urban poets don’t just stop there however. The Chainsmokers are also known to brag about their, hold your horses, their penises. Their penis sizes, combined, from tip to tip, are 17 inches, or so they claim. Well, whatever game they’re on top of, this is for sure, they’re going to take India by storm.

The Chainsmokers are performing in Mumbai on 7 September and Delhi on 8 September.
