The nominations for the 62nd Grammy Awards, which will be held in 2020, were announced on 20 November. And American singer Lizzo, whose ‘Truth Hurts’ became a viral hit in 2019, is leading the way with a total of eight nominations in her pocket. The categories include album of the year, record of the year, song of the year and best new artist. ‘Truth Hurts’ is also in line for best pop solo performance.
Lizzo is closely followed by 17-year-old Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X; both have received six nominations each.
Billie Eilish has set a record for becoming the youngest artist to receive nominations in the four major categories of record of the year, album of the year, song of the year and best new artist. Her song ‘Bad Guy’ made it to the top of the charts and broke Lil Nas X 19-week-long streak.
Lil Nas X has been nominated in six categories including record of the year, best pop duo, and best music video.
All these three nominations are for different remixes of his song ‘Old Town Road’.
Ariana Grande too has received five Grammy nominations for the album of the year and record of the year for Thank U, Next and ‘7 Rings’ respectively.
Taylor Swift’s album Lover has been nominated for song of the year (‘Lover’), best pop solo performance (‘You Need To Calm Down’) and best pop vocal album.
Lana Del Rey, Bon Iver and Vampire Weekend have also been nominated in the album of the year category. Lady Gaga’s A Star Is Born was eligible for the 2020 Grammys and it got three nominations.
