American king of comedy Jerry Seinfeld’s much awaited show in Mumbai this weekend has landed up in trouble with the city’s traffic police. The sell-out event is scheduled to take place at the National Sports Club of India in Tardeo, that has a seating capacity of 5000 people. However, it only has 1,000 parking slots and that’s why the traffic cops are likely to deny them the permission to hold the event at all, till they’re not convinced of adequate parking arrangements being made.
According to a report in the Mumbai Mirror, DCP Zone 3, S Jayakumar has asked Only Much Louder (OML), the organisers of the Jerry Seinfeld’s show, to now look for another venue for their event to avoid any parking brawls and traffic bottlenecks.
Recently Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s convoy was denied entry to the NSCI for the same reason, resulting in a huge traffic jam, which proved costly for the CM who later apologised via social media for holding up traffic.
Vijay Nair, CEO, OML has reassured Mumbaikars that OML has all the required permissions and that parking space will be made available at the Atria Mall, which is a short walk from the NSCI. But they are not likely to get a go ahead till the authorities are convinced of their parking arrangements. NSCI secretary Rakesh Malhotra expressed his concern saying, “If 1000 parking slots are not enough to host an event, where can you have any event in this city?”
Seinfeld’s first show in India is a part of Stage 42, a festival of comedy, music and drama held across seven Indian cities.
Welcome to India Jerry Seinfeld. Please don’t bring your car.
