She’s hot and making her debut in the upcoming Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Summer/Resort 2017 at the age of 32. But what’s really making news is that Nepalese beauty Anjali Lama would be the first transgender model to walk the ramp in the prestigious Indian fashion event.
Born Nabin Waiba in Nuwakot, Nepal, it has not been an easy journey for Anjali. She fought prejudice, ridicule and alienation to embrace her identity with elan and is proud of it.
Let’s get to know this trailblazer a little better.
Proud Of Her Identity
Anjali is proud to be known as “Nepal’s First Transgender Model”.
For me, it was never a question of whether or not I was transgender. It was a question of what I’d be able to handle transitioning and having to do it in the public eye. One of the issues that was hard for me to overcome was the fear of that.Anjali Lama, Facebook
I am who I am. That is all that needs to be said. I don’t understand why things are difficult sometimes… but it is. I know for sure I am happy to say that I am trans, and I will be proud till the day I die. I just wish people can soon see that I am human too, as well as all of us who are facing trials like anyone else… but we are a strong and awesome community helping each other through kind words and experiences. To everyone thank you, and you’re awesome!
Ruling The Ramp
Anjali wanted to be a dancer but ended up being a model. She has been scorching the ramp for quite some time now. And now she has broken through another bastion with her LFW debut.
Cover Girl
Anjali has already been on the covers of several fashion magazines in Nepal. Now that she has moved to Mumbai, we sure hope to see more of her on some Indian numbers as well.
