Karan Johar has announced his plans to remake Mani Ratnam’s recent Tamil hit OK Kanmani, which featured Dulquer Salmaan and Nithya Menen. The Hindi remake will be produced by Dharma Productions, directed by Shaad Ali and the cast will comprise of Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor.

This will be the second Mani Ratnam film that Shaad will remake, the first being Saathiya (2002), which was a remake of Ratnam’s Alai Payuthey (2000). The original film also had an older couple played by Prakash Raj and Leela Samson, it remains to be seen if Karan will repeat them in his remake or go for more ‘Bollywood’ faces.

Shaad who has been riding a rough patch (Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Kill Dil), will be hoping that this Ratnam remake comes to his rescue once again as it did when he debuted in 2002.

As per Johar’s tweet, Gulzar and AR Rahman will also be a part of the project, which probably means that most of the original chartbusters from OK Kanmani will be dubbed with Hindi lyrics for the remake.
