Filmmaker Ketan Mehta wants the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police to book Kangana Ranaut for cheating and breach of trust. The filmmaker had earlier sent a legal notice to the actress alleging that she had hijacked his film on Rani Lakshmibai. Mehta has now approached the police to file an FIR against Kangana.
Mehta was in talks with Kangana for a film on the Rani of Jhansi for over a year. After the project fell through, the actress went and announced her own first production titled Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, to be directed by Radha Krisna Jagarlamudi, who earlier made the Akshay Kumar-starrer Gabbar Is Back.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Ketan Mehta says that his team had “shared various versions of the script and sketch materials with Kangana Ranaut” and that he was shocked to know that the actress was making the film with someone else.
Mehta claims that he has been working on the project for over 10 years and has suffered a loss of Rs 9 crore since he won’t be able to go ahead with his project now that Kangana has announced her film.
Meanwhile, Kangana’s lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee defends the actress by saying that she has “not committed any moral or legal wrong”. The EOW is conducting a probe and Kangana will be summoned to record her statement on the matter. An FIR, if at all, will be filed only after a thorough investigation by the police.
