International Tiger Day got us thinking about Bollywood’s very own tiger, Tiger Shroff. We’ve always been curious about how he got his name. And yes, it’s got something to do with the beautiful beasts. In a recent interview the Baaghi actor tells us why his name never caused him embarrassment in school.

I got the name Tiger because I used to bite and scratch people as a child. There was no other Tiger in school so everyone thought my name was cool. I hope that I can take my career to the heights that other successful Tigers, like golfer Tiger Woods and cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi did.

Tiger Shroff even adopted a tigress during the filming of Heropanti. He named her Lee and feels sad that he isn’t able to meet her as often as he’d like to. On International Tiger Day, the actor has also written a letter to Anil Dave, Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, urging authorities to provide better care and protection for the endangered species in their natural habitat.

I have been associated with the cause since my Heropanti days. I’m trying to make a difference by spreading awareness. I have been speaking to colleagues about Lee, the tigress I adopted, and urging them to join the cause. Small gestures, like I pay for Lee’s food, can help.
