‘The Warrior Queen of Jhansi’ Trailer Retells Rani Laxmibai’s Tale

The trailer of historical drama The Warrior Queen of Jhansi has been released. Directed by Swati Bhise, the films stars Devika Bhise in the lead role, with Rupert Everett, Nathaniel Parker, Ben Lamb, Jodhi May, and Derek Jacobi. It is a retelling of the tale of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi. The film hits theatres on 15 November, in English and Marathi.

The trailer chronicles her journey from being a wife, mother to a queen and a warrior, who’s ready to fight The East India Company. Interspersed with dialogues in English and Marathi, the trailer shows the Queen of Jhansi training women to fight on the battleground.

The film releases nine months after Kangana Ranaut-starrer Manikarnika: Queen of Jhansi. It also stars Indian actors like Milind Gunaji, Yatin Karyekar, Arif Zakaria, Nagesh Bhonsle, and Ajinkya Deo.

According to the makers, “This real-life Wonder Woman’s insurrection shifted the balance of power in the region, and set in motion the demise of the notorious British East India Company and the beginning of the British Raj under Queen Victoria.” The Warrior Queen of Jhansi premiered at the Vancouver Women In Film Festival earlier this year.
