How does time evolve and lives unfurl within the unchanging four walls of a house? This is the theme of Teen aur Aadha, a film directed by Dar Gai and presented by Anurag Kashyap that was screened at the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK)2017. It stars Mukkabaaz girl Zoya Hussain, along with Jim Sarbh, MK Raina, Suhasini Mulay, Arya Dave, Anjum Rajabali and Manmeet Pem.

Teen Aur Aadha has been filmed in three long shots of 43 mins each (there are only three cuts in the film), and tells the story of a house and its inhabitants in three different eras. Check out the trailer here:

“The reason why I have used three long-takes to tell the story is that I wanted ‘the walls’ to be the narrating voice, and the walls are motionless, they don’t blink, they just stand objectively and exist in an almost voyeuristic capacity. The film explores the human “need for love” coupled with “the need to escape”, and how only through acceptance of these realities one can overcome them.”
