Director Ashwin Kumar’s No Fathers in Kashmir has been the center of controversy for a long time now over it’s censor status. The film has finally received its desired U/A certification from the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal (FCAT). The film is a love story between two 16 year old teenagers from Kashmir who’ve both lost their fathers. It stars an ensemble cast of newcomers along with Kulbulshan Kharbanda and Soni Razdan. Ashwin is the youngest Indian director to be nominated for an Oscar and also has won two National Awards.

After the No Fathers in Kashmir was submitted to the Central Board of Certification (CBFC) in July 2018, the board passed the film with an Adults (A) certificate in October. The filmmakers were unhappy since they claimed it did not contain any mature content and was made for a universal audience.

The makers challenged the board and took the film to the FCAT last November. After two hearings, the tribunal has passed the film albeit with suggested cuts and disclaimers. It still has to go to the CBFC for the final stamp.

Earlier, Alia Bhatt had highlighted the cause of No Fathers in Kashmir on Twitter since mother Soni stars in the film.

No Fathers in Kashmir does not have a release date set.
