Director Balaji Mohan and Dhanush return to the action comedy genre, where Dhanush reprises the titular role in Maari 2. This time round, Sai Pallavi plays the female lead (it was Kajal Agarwal in 2015's Maari). Sai Pallavi shot to fame with her role as Malar, the teacher from Tamil Nadu in the romantic blockbuster Premam.
Arguably one of the best dancers in the industry, she might be just what the film needs, since it banks on Dhanush's comic timing and dance moves.
Watch the trailer here:
Next on the roll call is Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who's become the people's choice for strong female villains. And then there's the Malayam actor Tovino Thomas, who seems to play Maari's arch nemesis. Tovino is the latest in a recent trend of cross-border actors, who draw in crowds from multiple languages for a Tamil film.
Yuvan Shankar Raja's music seems to chart an upward curve, over the last few films.
The trailer ends with Dhanush sporting a Bruce Lee-esque ripped physique, in a hall of mirrors, very reminiscent of Enter The Dragon.
Let's hope the film is as incendiary as the trailer itself.
