One of the biggest releases of this year is 2.0, which is set to hit theatres on 29 November. Directed by S Shankar, the film stars Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar and has been produced by Lyca Productions.
During the launch of the trailer, Rajinikanth has stated that the film had been made on a massive budget of nearly Rs 600 crore. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, 2.0 has already recovered around half of its budget even before its release. Deals made on satellite rights, digital rights and so on have allegedly earned it Rs 370 crore.
Nevertheless, the film would need a little over Rs 100 crore to break even. At the launch of the trailer, Rajinikanth was quoted as saying, “Mark my words, the film will be a super hit. Advance wishes to Shankar and Lyca Productions. Nearly Rs 600 crore has been spent on the film.”
2.0 is a sequel to 2010 blockbuster Enthiran (Robot). Rajinikanth will be seen reprising his role as Dr Vaseegaran and Chitti with Akshay Kumar as his nemesis, Richard. Chitti is brought back to life when a gigantic avian monster rises to power after taking over all the world’s mobile phones.
