Having acted in over 175 films, actor Shashi Kapoor made the line, ‘Mere Paas Maa Hai,’ from Deewar , indelible for cinephiles. Tributes are pouring in from his contemporaries and fans.
An epitome of grace and talent, the actor and producer is clearly revered by Bollywood. They really don’t make them like him anymore. While Twitterati lamented the loss by terming it ‘the end of an era’, most senior celebs, like Raj Babbar and Shabana Azmi seemed too overwhelmed to tweet beyond a few lines. The younger generation, Aamir Khan, Ajay Devgn, producer Riteish Sidhwani and even Pulkit Samrat promptly commemorated the handsome Shashi Kapoor on social media.
Actor Prem Chopra, who worked with him prolifically through the 60s, 70s and the 80s spoke to a television channel and offered his condolences.
“Indeed very sad news, especially for the family but they were expecting this because he was very sick since the last few years. It used to sadden people to see such a handsome and charming man on a wheelchair... the man who was active and always on the run, pleasing people, creating a beautiful atmosphere on the set and such a great friend of everybody. When he was on the wheelchair I used to feel very pained. Whenever we met each other, we would pull each others legs. He had a great sense of humour and could take jokes on himself too.”Actor Prem Chopra.
This is a developing story.
