Barfi! actress Ileana D’Cruz recently revealed shocking details about long struggle with body issues, especially as a famous face in Bollywood. Not too long ago Sarbjit actress Richa Chadha has also spoken out about her eating disorder. Bollywood has always been harsh with the pressure it has put on our leading ladies to look a certain way, and it seems like nothing has changed.
Below are some excerpts from Ileana’s story, in which she admits to having succumbed to the pressure of ‘looking perfect’, to make it big in the Hindi film industry.
There was a point when I was super skinny. And I have had body issues for very long. I was at my lightest weight and even then I felt ‘Oh my God I am so fat.’ I am not too open about my body type. I have an unusual body type.Ileana D’Cruz (as reported by PTI)
Ileana also says in the interview that after she hit her lowest low, she finally reached a point where she was ready to work on herself, rather than obsess over her body type.
When going out, I look in the mirror, like any other normal girl, and feel ‘I look alright’. Then I get slammed by paparazzi. I say to myself ‘why do I look so different in photographs?’ It becomes a little bit of an obsession. I am only human. It is very important to try and not think what others think about you. You should be happy the way you are. I’ve reached a phase now where I am like, ‘you know what, I am not super happy with the way I look, but I am ready to work at it. I am not going to obsess over itIleana D’Cruz (as reported by PTI)
Ileana D’Cruz has worked in Barfi! alongside Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, and also featured in Main Tera Hero, Phata Poster Nikla Hero and Happy Ending. She makes it a point to mention that she has nothing against models who are curvy and take up limelight.
I love the fact that there are curvy models out there who are taking up the limelight. They have nothing against women who are skinny, that’s just the way they are.Ileana D’Cruz (as reported by PTI)
Ileana, we hear you! It’s all about loving yourself!
