15 September is celebrated as National Engineer’s Day in India as a tribute to Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, renowned for his contributions in the field. Those of you, who really want to get a glimpse into an engineer’s life, here is a list of the top 5 sketches about the ‘engineering’ life in India.

5. Every Indian Engineer in the World

At number 5 we have Every Indian Engineer in the World by Being Indian which depicts little things every engineer has said in his college days. Starting from learning by rote to watching a lot of porn, it portrays what every engineering student in India will relate to. In fact, most of the things unfolding in the sketch are not only relatable to every engineering student but to every college student in the country.

4. Medical vs Engineering Life

At number 4 we have Medical vs Engineering Life by HRzero8 which describes the difference between students of both the streams and clearly makes the engineering students look cooler than the medical ones. Although my judgement is based on the humorous depiction of engineering students in the sketch - empty classes with one person saying ‘present’ for everyone, addiction to video games even during exams, unique ways to cheat in exams etc. This video ranks on number 4 with more than 13 million views.

3. Story of Every Engineering Student

Filtercopy’s Story of Every Engineering Student covers almost every aspect of an engineer’s college life till his first job. It starts from the unequal sex ratio in the college, the disastrous mess food, sucking up to seniors, job interviews and more. The sketch is crisp and covers a lot of ground.

2. A Frustrated Software Engineer

At number 2, we have A Frustrated Software Engineer by Ashima Pictures. Though not technically, an ‘engineering’ sketch, this one cracked me up. This sketch goes on for about 12 and a half minutes but keeps you interested all throughout. The sketch is a parody of the famous Naseeruddin Shah scene from ‘A Wednesday’ where he is complaining about the common man’s problems. A spoof, this sketch lets you in on the problems of a software engineer who has applied for leave.

1. Honest Campus Placements

As a writer you have to ensure that your audience makes it to the end of your video and AIB’s Honest Campus Placements Engineering Edition ensures that you devour the whole video and click on part 2 and 3 as well. The sketch is divided in 3 parts which makes the total duration about 30 minutes. I recommend all the 3 parts. I’m not an engineering student but this sketch makes you empathise with the students and also ranks high on the hilarity meter. The diversity shown in the 3 characters (average, over achiever and under achiever) will make you relate to one of them at least. This sketch takes the cake because of every aspect of its craft - be it the acting, direction or the writing.
