Netflix has released the first look at their upcoming fantasy series The Witcher based on the hugely successful video game of the same name. The show stars Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill in an ensemble cast.
The streaming giant shared a motion poster featuring Cavill and also debuted the new logo for the series. The actor known most popularly for his role as Superman in the DC Extended Universe films plays the lead character of Geralt from the game. The poster sees Geralt decked out in battle armour looking out at the sea with his back to the camera. The tweet reads, “The worst monsters are the ones we create.”

The Witcher was originally a series of fantasy novels and short stories by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski. The first role playing game based on the books was released in 2007. The third game in the franchise, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, is considered one of the greatest games of all time.
Here is Netflix’s official synopsis for the web series.
"Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together."
The series also stars Anya Chalotra, playing Yennefer, and Freya Allan as Ciri. Netflix is set to drop The Witcher sometime later this year.
