The highly-anticipated third season of Netflix’s science fiction series Stranger Things dropped on 4 July. Naturally, the buzz around it is in full swing and Netflix has just released its own data to corroborate the same.

According to Netflix, Stranger Things is breaking the streaming giant’s own records as 40.7 million “household accounts” have been watching the show ever since its global release on Thursday 4 July. Which is more than any other Netflix series or film. And as of 9 July, 18.2 million accounts have already finished the season.

“ .@Stranger_Things 3 is breaking Netflix records! 40.7 million household accounts have been watching the show since its July 4 global launch — more than any other film or series in its first four days. And 18.2 million have already finished the entire season.”

Stranger Things is created by the Duffer Brothers. It follows the story of a small town, called Hawkins, that is haunted by a dangerous monster. The monster is discovered by Will Byers (Noah Schnapp). The series chronicles the efforts of Hawkins’ residents as they try to stop the monster from taking over the place. The show is set in the 80s.

Stranger Things stars an ensemble cast including Millie Bobbie Brown, who plays Eleven, Finn Wolfhard, Winona Ryder, Joe Keery, David Harbour and more.

However, according to Netflix, third-party data measurements are inaccurate as they do not take into consideration viewership on mobile devices.
