Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, who recently celebrated one year of their wedding anniversary, have just announced a unique Amazon series based on the Indian pre-wedding tradition of sangeet. According to entertainment website Deadline, the show is currently untitled and casting for it is underway.
The sangeet ceremony takes place a day before the wedding as family and friends prepare and participate in an evening dominated by music and dance. Priyanka and Nick’s Amazon series will also follow couples, along with their family and friends, as they prepare for this ceremony as well as the wedding. Filming for the show will begin in 2020. It will be executive produced by Priyanka and Nick under their banners Purple Pebble Productions and Image 32 banner.
Talking about the inspiration behind the series, Priyanka told Deadline that the couple recently re-watched the video of their Sangeet ceremony and were struck by the warmth and excitement of their wedding from a year ago. Priyanka further explained that Sangeet is a “centuries-old Indian wedding tradition, that not only celebrates the union of two people, but also signifies the introduction and bonding of two families coming together in a marriage.”
Priyanka also took to social media to share the news.
She wrote, “@nickjonas and I are excited to announce a new, currently untitled project (we’re still working on it!!) that celebrates the love and magic that comes from friends and family that join together through music and dance the night before a wedding.
