16 November will see the clash of two gangs, one in India and the other in South America. The first season of Amazon Prime’s Mirzapur and season 4 of Netflix drama Narcos will both premier on their respective platforms on the same day.
Both shows explore similar themes of drugs, violence, power and politics. While Narcos explores the origins of the present day drug war and the rise of cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar, Mirzapur is the story of the menacing Kaleen Bhaiyya and his cartel set in the small Indian town of Purvanchal.
Speaking about the clash of content on the two OTT platforms, Mirzapur director Karan Anshuman said that he was confident the show will appeal to a global audience. He’s sure that while Narcos has a huge fan following, Mirzapur will win Indian hearts considering the story is set closer to home.“I don't think the clash will affect views because let's be honest, this is our world, it is our story, by our I mean an Indian thing, and it is very rooted in what our reality is,” he says.
