If you are reading this and wondering what happens when five women are sharing a make-up room, you are not the only one. There’s always been curiosity about what exactly goes on behind the scenes. So, here’s a brand-new show based on this very concept, in Hinglish, which will be featured on Youtube.
Promising a plethora of emotions with humourous undertones, mother-daughter duo Anita and Pooja Kanwal bring, The Make- Up Room, a web series that will stream on Youtube across five webisodes from 11 July. Veteran actor Anita Kanwal is known for her acting talent in shows such as Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi, Sasural Genda Phool and Gustakh Dil.
The show will also mark veteran actor Anita and daughter Pooja’s production debut. Speaking of the show’s USP, ie moving into the digital space, Anita articulates,
Over the years I have acted in, and directed various shows for television, only to realise that whatever we tried to creatively achieve was at the end of the day turned around by someone. But in this case, I have complete freedom of expression and a creative canvas to really do what I wish to do.
And so has Anita, “The story of The Make-Up Room has been on my mind for years now. It is more or less the accumulation of all our real life incidents, of experiencing the make-up room for so many years,” she adds. The two will produce the web-series under their own production house, PK Productions and this will be their debut venture.
The cast consists of none other than Anita herself, who will play the role of Sangeetaji, a senior actor who looks khadoos (strict) but is very sweet and perpetually searching for an eligible “buddha” (a senior bachelor). Supriya Pilgaonkar, known for her amazing comic timing, will play the role of Priyanka, an innocent, sweet and famous actor who does not know how much this gang is going to pollute her mind. Sooraj Thapar, a household name for TV viewers since many decades will play the role of Priyanka’s husband who is seen video-chatting with his wife mostly to get a glimpse of the young girls in the make-up room. With Delnaaz Irani, Jiten Lalwani, Shyam Mashalkar, Sonali Sachdeva, Pooja Kanwal, Anant Vijay Joshi and new comer Shweta Vyas - it looks like a Sasural Genda Phool reunion!
My experience of shooting Make-Up Room was really fun! Since we all were meeting after very many days and actually sharing the make-up room. Even when we were shooting for a soap few years ago, we always shared a make-up room. And it is indeed a lot of fun in there. There is so much of leg pulling and sarcasm, and yet there is basic friendship every time we meet.Supriya Pilgaonkar, on her experience of shooting for the web series
“Whenever we shoot on set, all the ladies and sometimes, even the male actors drop in the make-up room. Because there is lots of gossip and fun in the make-up room. Obviously the writer (Anitaji) is a diva herself and has seen it all and she wanted to give a taste of this to everybody. So you get to see a glimpse into that world,” she Supriyaji about what to expect from the show.
An excited Delnaz Irani shares, “I play Ananya, who is a channel creative and don’t ask me anything more because I am not going to reveal much otherwise I will be in a soup. But she will obviously give you enough laughs on the show.”
When Anitaji came up to me with this whole concept of this web series I was very very excited. The series seemed very interesting and while I shot the whole thing it was like shooting with friends and family! People have to expect a lot of masala from this show. It’s going to be a lot of masti and drama.Delnaz Irani, Actor

The web-series will essentially establish all the quirky characters who are very apprehensive of sharing a make up room in the first episode. Then we will see a Sania’s heartbreak in the second episode where Sangeetaji is in tears because her dog is critical. The third episode deals with the possibilities of romance thrown by social media in today’s world. Moving further the creative from the channel comes and totally changes the characters and story line of the show in the fourth episode. And fifth and final episode will see the makeup room turning into a rehearsal ground for the atrocious changed story line of the show.
Certainly seems like an interesting plot, one we can watch out for!
