Actor politician Hema Malini is getting some flak on Twitter for her tweets about ‘senseless suicides’. Though she doesn’t mention the late TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee, but she does hint that she has no patience for those who ‘succumb under pressure and give up easily’.

One must learn to overcome all odds and emerge successful, not succumb under pressure and give up easily. The world admires a fighter, not a loser.

Hema Malini’s choice of words has enraged quite a few people on Twitter, just days after the suicide of Balika Vadhu actress Pratyusha Banerjee. The 24-year-old was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her Mumbai home on April 1st. The veteran actress tweeted saying that ‘the world admires a fighter, not a loser.’

All these senseless suicides which achieve nothing! Life is god’s gift for us to live, not for us to take at will. We have no right to do that.

The veteran film actress goes on to blame the media for its sensational reportage that thrives on celebrity suicides, and conveniently forgets all about the dead, when the next big tragedy comes along.

Just becomes food for the hungry media who chew on news like celebrity suicides until the next sensational news happens. Then it is forgotten.

Twitter has erupted with criticism for Hema Malini, many suggesting that it’s easy to talk about winning and overcoming odds when one isn’t battling depression, and that her understanding is therefore limited.

Not only are Hema Malini’s words too idealistic, they come down harshly on victims of turmoil, who are no more.

Some even turned her comments cleverly into a sarcastic attack on her daughter Esha Deol’s ‘failed’ career.

Hema Malini’s tweets display her lack of understanding and empathy towards the psyche of a victim of suicide. Since when was life only about winning or losing? Hema Malini can blame the media all she likes, but she alone carries the responsibility for her judgemental comments towards those who fight depression on a daily basis.
