It’s official. Johnny Depp will be part of the much awaited Fantastic Beasts franchise, the first of which, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, is releasing on November 17. Written by JK Rowling, it also stars Eddie Redmayne and Colin Farrell. According to Deadline, Depp not only appears in the first film but would have an even bigger role in the sequel. It’s being speculated that he would be essaying the role of Grindelwald.
The casting has however not gone down well with Harry Potter fans at all. After the news broke, Twitterati exploded with angry outbursts against Depp, saying that the inclusion of an “abuser” like him in the franchise sends out a completely wrong message for children, Harry Potter fans and abuse survivors.
Johnny Depp has been accused by his now separated wife Amber Heard of abuse. Heard was even photographed with bruises.

Depp will also be seen reprising the role of Jack Sparrow in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
