The filmmaker had reportedly complained of chest pains and was taken in by the hospital on late Tuesday night. Reports that he suffered from a minor heart attack are however not confirmed.

When contacted, the hospital authorities said they had been asked not to give any further information but confirmed that the director was stable and sleeping. As per a report in Hindustan Times Mani Ratnam’s family, too, was unwilling to divulge any details.

Ratnam’s recent Tamil film, O Kadhal Kanmani has been a box-office success.
