Kangana Ranaut chooses beauty over fairness and aren’t we glad about that! As a brown-skinned nation our obsession with fair skin has blurred our concept of beauty altogether. And when our favourite Bollywood stars endorse one fairness product after another it makes things a bit worse.

But Kangana’s refusal to take up a reportedly lucrative endorsement deal for such a product is refreshing and her reason, touching. At a recent event for the promotion of her latest flick Tanu Weds Manu Returns she talked about her dusky sibling Rangoli and what she said has struck a chord with young girls across the country.

Kangana believes that if she was to endorse the concept of ‘fair is beautiful’ she would be directly insulting her own sister Rangoli, who is dusky yet beautiful. According to an HT report, Kangana also admitted that she’s never understood why we all wish to look fair and that as a celebrity, it is indeed her responsibility to change this mindset.

She strongly feels that skin colour creates barriers and is deeply embarrassed by those who actually accept such endorsement deals. Her co-star R. Madhavan also supported the actress by saying that Indians are the most racist people in his opinion and that the world functions on various levels of discriminations.

Kangana might have turned down the endorsement a while ago and some are speculating that the issue has been brought up again recently only as a publicity attempt. Well, not that Tanu Weds Manu Returns needs such publicity to bank on, but even if that was the case, this is no doubt a great message to give out!
