Despite best efforts by Shah Rukh Khan to avoid a clash, his film Raees and Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil are slated for release on 26 January 2017. King Khan had earlier shifted his release date from Eid because of Salman Khan’s Sultan to next year. This was a wise decision considering overwhelming response to Salman’s film at the world box office.
Shah Rukh recently visited the Mohenjo Daro actor to meet with his father and producer of Kaabil, Rakesh Roshan about the clash and if it could be avoided. SRK tweeted about his meeting which made it seem like the issue had been resolved.
According to reports by The Indian Express, Rakesh Roshan then told Bombay Times that his film would be releasing on Republic Day as earlier planned. The director of Kaabil, Sanjay Gupta, announced the news on Twitter as well.
In a media interaction during Eid, Shah Rukh spoke to the media about resolving the issue but it looks like it was all in vain.
We have spoken to Hrithik and also Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar (producers of Raees). That was a month ago, but I guess now we can do some adjustments. Rakeshji (Kaabil producer, Rakesh Roshan) and Ritesh and Farhan will be meeting again. We are trying to figure things out, so we don’t have a clash.Shah Rukh Khan (as reported by The Indian Express)
