Now this is HUGE. Deepika Padukone, in what’s surely going to be one of the great coups of her career, has been signed for his next film by award-winning Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi. Pictures of the Padmavati star doing a look test dressed as a ragpicker in a slum - a far cry from her regular glam avatar - are sending social media into a tizzy .

Casting director Honey Trehan, who has been signed up along with music director AR Rahman, told DNA the yet-untitled film would be set in India and would be shot towards the year-end or early 2017.

It is an Indian story and will be shot in Mumbai, Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and Kashmir. It will take off towards the year-end or early 2017 and is a signature Majidi film with new takes on relationships and emotional quotients.

Trehan also told Can-India that eight to 10 of the principal characters in the film would be played by Indian actors.

He (Majidi) has experimented with untrained talent in the past if he believes someone fits the part. We read the script together and I gave him my take. I’ve worked with Vishal Bhardwaj, I experienced the same warmth, the same approach to cinema, the same inspiring trust from Majidi. There was a sense of deja vu!

Majid Majidi is one of the most celebrated Iranian filmmakers in the world with gems like The Colour of Paradise, Baran, The Song of Sparrows, Muhammad: The Messenger of God and the Oscar nominated Children of Heaven to his name.

Deepika is making her Hollywood debut with Vin Diesel in xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.
