Ten years and 18 Marvel movies have led to the big and brave and bizarre Avengers: Infinity War - the wait for which was more agonising than Winds of Winter (it would still be agonising of course, but GOT fans have just kinda given up now).
So much so that this was happening somewhere in the world.
(Other than those who were muting words to avoid spoilers on the internet, of course.)
The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) brought all the superheroes, in all the galaxies together in this giant cross-over, and yet, managed to keep its wits about. Like any Avenger film, Infinity War came packed with lots of shocks and surprises. Besides being a real visual spectacle, Infinity War also manages to make you clap, and gasp at the drop of a hat.
But before we go any further, know that this post contains spoilers.
Lots of spoilers.
1. Peter Dinklage
When you think of dwarves in pop culture, there’s only one name that pops up: Peter Dinklage. And so, of course, if Marvel had to pack in more punches and surprises, it had to come in the form of our friendliest and most favourite dwarf. In Infinity War, Dinklage is Eitri - The King of the Dwarves of Nidavellir.
Finally, King!
2. Tony Stark and Doctor Strange Sparring Over... Everything
Forget everything else. Tony Stark and Doctor Strange in a single frame. What more do you want?
Those ’em-alpha-males-butting-heads-about-who-will-lead-the-pack moments with Benedict Cumberbatch and Robert Downey Jr is the most exciting part, IMO, of this colossal cross-over.
But we do live with a few regrets:
3. Chris Pratt Imitates Chris Hemsworth
After Thor is introduced to the Guardians of the Galaxy, Infinity Wars gives us a fun banter between Thor and Star-Lorde, where the latter imitates the God of Thunder’s deep voice. It’s one of the many light-hearted moments in the film.
4. Spider-Man Meets Iron Suit
Spider-Man (Tom Holland) needs more than just his spidey powers to survive in space. Enter the Iron Suit. And when his powers get amplified in Iron Man’s armour, you can safely hoot.
5. Thor As the ‘God of Thunder’
He’s done it plenty of times in the Marvel universe, but after suffering many blows throughout the film, this scene is...much needed.
6. New Worlds
Infinity War takes us through many galaxies and many worlds in two-and-a-half hours. Knowhere, Nidavellir, Titan and the spectacular fights in space give a real sense of the infinity war.
7. Okoye and Black Widow’s Expertise
Black Widow and Okoye fighting the bad guy (woman, actually) in the final battle is all powerful. Too bad the Russo brothers cut it short.
And here’s a crash course for all things Marvel:
