In November 2018, Alia Bhatt took to social media to announce that she will be collaborating with her father, Mahesh Bhatt, for the first time in his upcoming directorial Sadak 2. It will never be easy as I don’t know him as a director, I know him as a dad. Working with him as a director will be a different ball game altogether. I am excited. It is an exciting film.
Alia Bhatt told PTI

“My father is very silent on most of the things. But I still don't know how he will be on the sets”, the Kalank actor added.

Mahesh Bhatt’s last directorial was in 1999 - Kartoos starring Sanjay Dutt and Manisha Koirala. Alia revealed that it was Sanjay Dutt itself who convinced Mahesh Bhatt to get back to directing films.
