Producer/director Karan Johar received the bad kind of attention on Friday 22 March when his Twitter account appeared to ‘liked’ a tweet which was abusing Shah Rukh Khan. Now after SRK’s fans attacked the filmmaker and the hashtag #ShameOnKaranJohar trended, Shah Rukh has tweeted trying to broker peace.

“I hate clarifications on SM. @karanjohar is technologically challenged but has other good qualities like his taste in clothes!?Just like Life, twitter doesn’t come with instructions, so mistakes r natural....& also he has fat fingers. Go easy all, Make Lov not War...it’s more fun,” he wrote.

As Twitter users will know, ‘Likes’ by an account are publicly visible to all. At the top of Karan’s Likes was a tweet comparing the collection of his production Kesari which released Thursday to that of SRK’s recent misfire Zero. In the process the tweet uses some rather colourful language directed at Shah Rukh. While KJo has now un-liked the tweet, screenshots from earlier are still going around.

The tweet said, “Half day colls of #kesari on Holi day (which is worse than pre diwali day) > #ZERO full festival day collection. Jab Baat stardom ki aati h toh gayrukh akshay ke jh@t barabar bhi nhi aata. Aise B grade star ke fans se fight karke akki ko insult mat karwao. Pls.”

Unsurprisingly once SRK fans noticed Karan’s like, he started getting a lot of flak on Twitter. Many tweeted that they couldn’t believe Karan would “betray” Shah Rukh like this. The hashtag #ShameOnKaranJohar started trending across India.

Now Karan has offered an explanation in a new post, saying, “Guys having a technical problem with my twitter account! Strange things are going on!from uploading shoe picture and gibberish to liking tweets I haven’t even read and would NEVER even acknowledge! Please bear with me and I apologise for any inconvenience! Sorting it out asap!”

We can’t know what actually went wrong with Karan’s Twitter, but the fanboys and trolls are not buying his reasoning for now.
