Yesterday was little Nawab Taimur Ali Khan’s birthday and it was as princely as it could get as he spent it surrounded by family in his father’s ancestral home in Pataudi. While Saif Ali Khan gifted the little prince a jeep, mommy Kareena went a step ahead and gifted him a forest with nutritionist Rujukta Diweker.

Located in Sonave, 50 kms from Mumbai, it is a community farming initiative, that "thrives on intercropping". The idea behind the gift was to ensure that Taimur grows up to understand diversity and the importance of ecologically sustainable ways of life. The forest is spread over 1000 square feet, and is said to include a lot of trees including three jamun, one jack-fruit, one amla, 40 banana, 14 moringa, one kokum, one papaya, five custard apple, two persimmon and two lemon trees. Check out Rujuta’s post for more details:

A little forest for Taimur A little boy can never have enough of birds, bees and butterflies and so we have put together a small forest as a birthday gift for the little big boy, Taimur, in Sonave. It’s a special forest, one that thrives on intercropping and i hope that as he grows he too will thrive in and celebrate a diverse society. A society where people live together through and due to their distinctions. The forest has about 100 trees on a 1000 sq ft plot. The trees are as young as Taimur, even younger actually, and each one of them is a local, native, climate resilient specie. It will be a forest of the super foods of the future. There are 3 jamuns, 1 jackfruit, 1 amla, 40 Bananas, 14 Moringas, 1 Kokum, 1 Papaya, 5 Seetaphal, 2 Ramphals, 2 Nimbu trees. Besides these it grows 3 different types of native pulses and many Mirchi, Ginger, Turmeric and kari patta plants. Not to mention the green leafy veggies and the genda phools that grow in between. The forest is inspired by Padma Shri Subhash Palekar’s zero budget natural farming where one tree grows symbiotically off another and thus is thrifty on one’s pocket. The forest will become a home for pollinating agents like the butterflies, bees, birds and earthworms. It will help nurture the soil, fix back the nitrogen and minerals in the soil that it grows on, preserve the water table and look elegant and beautiful while doing it all. Here’s to living sustainably! Happy Birthday. #taimuralikhan

According to Rujukta’s Instagram post the little Nawab is fond of nature and animals, so we bet this was the perfect gift for him. The forest will also grow native pulses, mirchi, ginger, turmeric and other green leafy vegetables. Not just will this underscore the importance of a green life for Taimur but the forest will also lend itself as a home for pollinating agents like butterflies, bees and birds. Very thoughtful of mommy Kareena, we must say!

Rujuta and Kareena have been sharing a special bond since Tashan in the year 2008, when Kareena Kapoor set the trend of size zero in the industry. Kareena also revealed how Rujuta helped her lose her post-pregnancy weight.
